Scholarships
Lloyd and Barbara Amundson reflected on their good life in 1992, wondering what they could do to give back some of the good fortune they had experienced in their lifetime. L.A. Amundson, owner of First Security Banks established the scholarship program in 1993 with a $5 million endowment. As of 2025, the L.A. Amundson Ohana Foundation has awarded over 6,000 scholarships totaling over $8.5 million dollars.
L.A. Amundson himself was dependent on the financial help of others to attain his college degree, “There was no chance, not one chance in a thousand, that I could’ve ever gone to college without the G.I. Bill.”
